‘Instead of Against It’

As a mirror to her 2025 studio album ‘Another Kind of Suicide’, ‘Instead Of Against It’ is the new live album by Zoe Heselton, recorded in January 2026 at Instants Chavirés, Montreuil. It contains the same songs that can be heard on ‘Another Kind of Suicide’, recorded then with six other musicians, but presented here in a more urgent and primitive form, delivered by the electric guitar and the voice alone. Here is how Zoe introduces her songs at her concerts: “The songs you are about to hear are songs of pain and healing, loss and grief, change and desire, tenderness and rage, struggle and hope. They are poems, they are prayers, they are rituals and spells. To borrow from Audre Lorde, who is one of the many ancestors of these songs, they are litanies for survival, spoken for those of us who were never meant to survive
