Raphael Loher

Raphael Loher is a pianist and composer who works with a range of musical styles and
interdisciplinary projects. Using preparations and extended techniques, he expands the sound of
the piano and creates his personal and unique sound world. In 2022, he released his first solo
album ‘Keemuun’ on three:four records. Across its four pieces, Loher reduced the piano to just
ten notes spanning two octaves on the keyboard. This focus on a single idea and its countless variations has since become the core of Loher’s solo work. With Baumschule, a minimalist-long-
form-improvisation trio featuring Manuel Troller and Julian Sartorius, he explores these ideas in a band setting.

With Post-gerne Group KALI Trio he’s pushing the boundaries between minimal, ambient, jazz and
electronic music. The award-winning trio has released their second album ‘LOOM’ in early 2021,
which has been dubbed «…a truly inventive album…» by legendary music journalist Anil Prasad. ‘Nemesis’, a movie by director Thomas Imbach has premiered the cinemas in 2021 and
features an original soundtrack by KALI Trio.

Lucerne-based Loher has collaborated with a diverse array of artists such as: Gerry Hemingway,
Manuel Troller, Julian Sartorius, Christian Weber, Frantz Loriot, Carl Ludwig Hübsch, Ensemble for New Music Zurich, Linda Vogel, Hans Koch, Silke Strahl, Christoph Erb and many others.

Raphael Loher has toured throughout Europe and played festivals such as Montreux Jazz Festival,
Willisau Jazz Festival, Suisse Diagonales, Jazzfestival Schaffhausen, Match & Fuse Festival, Unerhört Festival, Akut-Festival, Cully Jazz Festival, Micro Jazzfestival, amongst others.

For the last 10 years he has organised concerts for experimental music with Kulturbrauerei and
Mullbau in Lucerne
