Moondog looking for ‘H’art Songs’

BIO

‘H’art Songs’ is another UFO in Moondog‘s already composite discography. In his sixties, the composer published ten art songs that blur the boundaries between classical and pop music.

At the time of its release, the composer had been living in Germany for four years, the land of Johann Sebastian Bach, his mentor. After a difficult start for this stranger with no local knowledge and no knowledge of the German language, young music lovers, including Fritz Storfinger, took an interest in his work and introduced him to Europe. Storfinger played all the piano parts in four-hand pieces, the complexity of which was hidden behind the seemingly simple melodies. Moondog accompanies him with his deep, warm voice. On the back cover the composer states:

“Moondog singing Moondog? Really!
Even Goodness knows, that Moondog doesn’t sing a song; he shows you how it goes.”
